Zarin's Personality
Guardian Zarin (Ref 9A)- This is when he is very young. He is bright, excited, and reckless. He is a Power Guardian at this stage of his life, meaning he has complete access to his magic unlike the other Shilkas. Also note that like all other Power Guardians he has black pupils instead of white ones. (ONLY IN THIS STAGE OF HIS LIFE) He also does not have an aspen heart (The horns on the chests of most Shilkas) Side note, his magic is orange gold, the same color as his eyes and cloth cuffs.
Zarin (Ref 9B)- This reference is after Talidia (The kingdom of the Shilkas) uses the Tali (a magic artifact that can be used to travel between worlds) to move/Defect to The World of Viri. The gifts the Tali had granted to the Shilkas in the past world are gone, so the Power Gaurdians (a gift put in pace from the leap to the world of Broken (Where Zarin was born and such)) are turned into normal Shilkas. Zarin no longer can use his magic like he once could, and his anger boils for 13 years. This phase of his life is one of angst, sadness, anxiety, and the purest most broken type of loneliness possible.
Anxiety Form Zarin (Ref 9C)- To understand how this happened, you do need to read a little lore on Shilkas as a species and so on (found in the Defected Guide), but to say the least, he destroyed his tree. In any case, this unleashes a sickness across Talidia, blah blah- Zarin isn't Zarin anymore. He is just emotion. Anxiety form doesn't really have logic, he just is emotion in a physical form. All of the built up resentment and anger overtakes Zarin and he can't really control anything anymore. Everything he does is off of what his emotions do. He is often angry, anxiously overwhelmed in anger and pissed offed ness, mad, sad, more angry stressed blobbedness and so on. His anger sprouts from his anxiety in short. He is often seen with The Snake around his neck or watching near by.
Zarin (healed) (Ref 9D)- After Zarin is rescued, he is very timid and quiet. He expects the worst and is terrified to step wrong. Eventually he comes out of his shell and becomes that excited, ready to explore kid again. He no longer has a connection to anything magical now that his Aspen Heart is completely gone, with nothing but a scar left to tell the story. He is ready to learn and likes to be with people after being alone for so long. His best friend is Wihallew; they are super close and make many break throughs in research, trying to figure out how to cure the sick Talidians. His anxiety is definitely still present but he works very hard not to let it control him ever again. And with the help of The Eagle, that control is not nearly as far off as he once thought.
Design Symbolism
Zarin's pelt is dark navy, a color that often is used to represent sadness and depression. He also has gray in his design to symbolize his loneliness. However, his eyes are orange-yellow which is the color symbolizing change. He perceives the world in these colors, and at first he aims to change the world, but he later learns to change himself first. He learns to control his shapeshifting emotions with this new outlook, and eventually becomes someone who could easily change the world for the better. His design shape language is a mix between a square and a triangle. He is quite literally edgy. Finally, the most discrete symbolism is his ear color when he is in anxiety form. See, Zarin and Defected as a whole has gone through quite a number of redesigns and storylines, though the most prominent of those versions was the second rendition of Defected. The one where Zarin was a cold blooded murderer turned psychotic. In that storyline, Zarin's main color is a saturated brown color.... the same tone as his ear color in the Anxiety Form. You see, when he lets his emotions control his actions and becomes Anxiety Form, he comes closer than ever to the darkness he was originally meant to represent.
